Your agent finds the right template and completes its questionnaire using the information you provide. Document Drafter then generates the documents using the template’s wording, logic and formatting – the same process used in the Document Drafter portal.

How it works

Once connected, you can ask your agent to:

• Find templates: Search the templates you have access to and find the right one for your task.
• Complete a questionnaire: Use an email thread, letter of intent, meeting notes or other material you provide to answer the questions. You can then complete any remaining questions yourself.
• Review your answers: Ask the agent to show the questionnaire so you can check and change answers before generating documents. In agents that support MCP Apps, the questionnaire appears directly in the conversation. You can also continue in the Document Drafter portal.
• Generate documents: Get the finished documents in Word or PDF format, delivered in the conversation where supported, or through a download link. A template can produce several documents.
• Save and continue later: Your questionnaire is added to My Documents as soon as it is started, and submitted answers are saved automatically. You can pick up your work through an agent or in the Document Drafter portal.

Displaying the questionnaire directly in the conversation requires support for MCP Apps. If your agent does not support this, it can still ask the questions in chat and submit your answers, or provide a link to continue in the portal.

Setup

Before you start

Your portal administrator must enable MCP under Administration → System settings. This only needs to be done once for your organisation.

You also need an AI agent that supports authenticated remote MCP connections. Availability and setup depend on the agent, your plan and your organisation’s settings. Your IT administrator may need to enable custom connectors or add the connector for your organisation.

Step 1: Add the connector in your agent

Open the area in your agent where you add custom connectors or MCP servers. Follow the instructions for your agent:

• Claude: Add a custom connector. Organisation owners and individual users have different setup steps.
• ChatGPT: Connect an MCP server. Adding a custom server through this route requires developer mode and may depend on your workspace settings.
• Microsoft Copilot: Setup depends on your organisation’s Copilot deployment. For agents configured in Copilot Studio, see Connect an agent to an MCP server.
• Other agents: Follow the provider’s instructions for adding a remote MCP server with OAuth authentication.

Use these connection details:

Select OAuth as the authentication method if it is not selected automatically, then add the connector.

The address is the same for every customer and agent. Your Document Drafter workspace is identified when you sign in.

Step 2: Sign in

1. Choose Connect, or the equivalent option, on the Document Drafter connector.
2. Enter your email address on the Document Drafter sign-in page.
3. Follow your organisation’s usual sign-in process, for example through Microsoft, including any two-factor authentication you normally use.

If your workspace uses Document Drafter accounts rather than single sign-on, sign in with your email address and a personal MCP access token created in the Document Drafter portal.

You can disconnect at any time through the connector settings in your agent.

Step 3: Try it out

Replace TEMPLATE NAME in this example with a template from your library, and provide the material you want the agent to use:

Troubleshooting

“I can’t find where to add a custom connector.”
Availability depends on your agent, plan and organisation’s settings. Ask your IT administrator whether custom MCP connectors are enabled or need to be added centrally. If your agent does not support authenticated remote MCP connections, it cannot use this connector.

“The address isn’t accepted.”
Copy the address exactly as shown, without spaces or additional characters:

“I’m asked for an MCP access token.”
Your workspace uses Document Drafter accounts rather than single sign-on. Create a personal MCP access token in the portal and use it together with your email address.

“My agent can’t find a template I expected.”
Check that you have access to the template in the portal, then ask your agent to search using words from the template’s name. Folder names are not searched. A newly created template can take up to five minutes to appear.

“The questionnaire isn’t shown in the chat.”
Displaying the questionnaire in the conversation requires support for MCP Apps. Ask your agent to show the questionnaire. If inline display is not supported, ask it to go through the remaining questions with you in chat or provide a link to continue in the portal.

“The documents won’t generate.”
The template may contain mandatory questions that must be answered before generation. Ask your agent to identify the missing answers or show you the questionnaire so you can complete them.

“I didn’t get the file in the chat.”
Your agent may provide a download link, particularly for larger files. If it supports file attachments, ask it to attach the generated document to the conversation. Otherwise, use the download link.

“The download link asks me to log in.”
Download links lead to your Document Drafter portal and require your normal login. They are not public share links.

“The download link has expired.”
Download links are valid for seven days. Ask your agent for a new link, or open the document in My Documents in the portal.

Privacy and data handling

• Your existing permissions apply. The agent acts on your behalf and can only access templates and questionnaires within your Document Drafter permissions.
• Sign-in follows your organisation’s setup. If you use single sign-on, your password is handled by your organisation’s identity provider. Workspaces using Document Drafter accounts authenticate with a personal MCP access token.
• Traffic is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
• Document Drafter processing takes place in your regional environment. Requests are routed to your organisation’s regional Document Drafter environment, where document generation takes place.
• Your AI agent also processes information. Information exchanged with the agent, including questionnaire answers and any documents it retrieves, is also processed by the agent’s provider under your organisation’s agreement and settings with that provider.
• The connector has a defined set of capabilities. It cannot delete saved documents, change templates or permissions, or access other users’ documents.
